Our great admiration for Yinka Illori Studio’s narrative driven work saw us welcome the opportunity to collaborate with him for the Thessaly Road Railway Bridge public art project called Happy Street, commissioned by Wandsworth Council and the London Festival of Architecture. The brief involved imbuing life to the dark underpass beneath the old railway bridge in Nine Elms. Yinka's concept drew inspiration from radiant sunsets over the River Thames and we helped bring it to life. The bridge was clad in vitreous enamel panels and decorated underside of the Victorian bridge using vivid colours selected to reference the seven types of happiness and arranged in patterns giving rhythm to the previously long monotonous underpass. Together with Yinka, we also led workshops with the community and the local primary school which now abuts and rejoice in the colourful public art piece. Photography by Luke O'Donovan
