This residential project involved a full refurbishment and new rear extension to an existing London Townhouse in East London’s De Beauvoir. As residential architects we used burnt wooden paneling for the outer envelope of the new extension to celebrate the contrast between the new and existing building fabrics.
Internally the ground floor was opened up to provide a large and light living space with combined dining, kitchen and lounge space. A deep cantilevered window provides a snug seat at the end of the kitchen, perfect for a moment to study a recipe book.
A large timber deck at the back of the property provides a seamless floor from inside and outside spaces, helping to celebrate the garden.
Upstairs the bedrooms and bathrooms were stripped back to raw textures and new materials were chosen to compliment these.
