This stunning, interactive installation was created for Clerkenwell Design Week by Red Deer in collaboration with locally based creatives Lighting Design StudioPopcorn, and StructureMode, and was supported by the Hatton Garden Business Improvement District. BLEED brings to life the gruesome legend of Bleeding Heart Yard, the topography of the area and design to illustrate the history of the community in Clerkenwell and the spirit of new ideas. 100 100mm wide red tinted acetate strips were attached to a high-tension steel cable and pulley system. Fishing wire was used as perpendicular braces between two mild steel tension steel cables and was tied at every 100mm centres. A lighting scheme was developed to backlight the existing courtyard streetlights that projected towards installation. The piece was suspended high above the Yard and responded to interaction from visitors by placing one’s fingertip on the sensor at ground level and see how the installation reacts to one’s heartbeat, creating a one of a kind artwork unlike anything seen before at Clerkenwell Design Week.
