The Amazon rainforest is home to more than half of the world’s 10 million species of plants, animals and insects, and one-fifth of the world’s fresh water, with more than 20% of the world’s oxygen being produced there. Today, the Amazon faces deforestation at an alarming rate and if this trend continues it could be wiped out by the end of this century. We are losing 137 plant, animal and insect species everyday due to deforestation; that equates to 50,000 species a year. @reddeer’s @___c___h___e___ will be volunteering with a registered non-profit organisation called @volunteerworld_com in October this year. VolunteerWorld spearhead conservation in a unique Amazon region of Peru. Their programme promotes conservation and sustainable practices with the help of international volunteers whom provide much needed hands-on support. As a volunteer @___c___h___e___ will be assisting research staff in a variety of ways, getting involved in many practical tasks and surveys. He will be helping by undertaking tree phenology, agroforestry projects and night transects along with community work helping local people with sustainable projects. The monies donated will go towards the cost of the programme which includes training, equipment, materials, accommodation and travel. Any further monies raised will also go to Volunteerworld to help with this or similar urgent projects. Link to donate @gofundme in bio.
